Our editorial this month is what we presented to our recent Annual Parish Assembly where key village groups give a summary of how things have been going since last year.
We are very pleased to share an update on The Chalgrave News, which continues to go from strength to strength. Over the past year, we’ve seen not only steady growth in readership and engagement, but also a real sense of momentum in what we’re able to offer our village. Thanks to a series of successful fundraising events, we are now in a financially stable position. This is something we’re particularly proud of, as it means we are able to operate independently and do not need to request financial assistance from the Parish Council. That independence allows us to plan ahead with confidence and to focus on creating events and initiatives that genuinely bring people together.
And bringing people together is very much at the heart of what we do. Alongside producing the newsletter, we’ve been able to organise a number of enjoyable community events, including the wreath-making workshop, the Christmas tree lighting, our ever-popular bingo night, and even a coach trip to the seaside. These events are not just about entertainment— they help strengthen the connections within our village and create shared memories for people of all ages.
None of this would be possible without the continued support of our community. Whether you attend events, contribute stories, or simply take the time to read the newsletter, your involvement is what keeps The Chalgrave News alive and relevant. We are also extremely grateful to our advertisers and sponsors, whose support plays a vital role in ensuring our ongoing sustainability.
We would also like to take a moment to recognise our team. Every edition of the newsletter and every event we run is the result of a great deal of time, effort, and expertise given freely by a small but dedicated group of people. What makes it even more special is that we work so well together—we support one another, share ideas, and, importantly, have a lot of fun along the way.
That sense of enjoyment and collaboration is, I think, reflected in what we produce. We aim not only to inform but also to uplift—to provide something that people look forward to and feel part of. In a world where community connections can sometimes feel stretched, having something local, positive, and shared really matters.
Looking ahead, we’re excited about what we can continue to build. With a stable financial footing and ongoing support, we have the opportunity to expand what we offer, try new ideas, and keep creating events that bring a bit of joy to village life.
